RESOURCES FOR THE STUDY OF MARK 16:9-20
John MacArthur and the Ending of Mark - a 26-minute video
challenging the flood of misinformation in his 2011 sermon
The Fitting End to Mark's Gospel.

Mark 16:9-20: Some Patristic Evidence - a three-part lecture
(about 15 minutes for each part) reviewing the many patristic
uses of Mark 16:9-20 in the 100s-500s.
Codex A (Alexandrinus)
Codex C (Ephraimi rescriptus)
Codex C
(later level of writing digitallyremoved)
PICTURES AND REPRODUCTIONS OF SOME MANUSCRIPTS
Codex W (032, Washingtoniensis) - Mark 16:9-20 follows Mark 16:8, with the Freer Logion between v. 14 and v. 15,
Codex Delta
Codex L (Regius) - Mark 16:8 followed by a note, then the Shorter Ending,
then a note, then Mark 16:9, etc.
Codex D (Bezae) - Mark 16:9 follows 16:8
GA 22 (facsimile) - Mk. 16:8 is followed by a
note: in some copies the Gospel ends here;
in many, this also appears, followed by
16:9-20.
GA 72 - A note in the margin beside Mk. 16:19
mentions that Irenaeus, who lived near the
time of the apostles, quotes this verse in
Book 3 of Against Heresies. The same note
appears in GA 1582.
Old Latin Codex Bobbiensis (k)
(facsimile) - the only Latin manuscript
of Mark in any language which has the
Shorter Ending after 16:8 without 16:9.

The copyist has made an insertion
between 16:3 and 16:4 about angels
descending and the Lord ascending.
He omitted part of verse 8.
In the Shorter Ending, he wrote "child"
(puero) instead of "Peter" (Petro) and
wrote "from east to east" instead of
"from east to west." He also omitted the
word "praedicationis" which is added in
the lower margin.

Codex Vaticanus (B) - The copyist ended the text of Mark at the
end of 16:9 in the second column. He left the third column
completely blank. This is the only blank column in the New
Testament portion of the manuscript, and the only blank column
in the entire codex that was not caused by factors related to the
production of the manuscript (such as a shift from a three-
column format to a two-column forman, and the meeting-point of
sections made by two different copyists).
Codex Vaticanus (B) (digitally altered) - Using lettering from
elsewhere on the page, Mark 16:9-20 snugly fills the blank space
of Codex Vaticanus following Mark 16:8. (This includes the
phrase in 16:18a, "And in their hands.")

Michael Kruger and the Ending of
Mark: a 17-minute video in which
I review some of the misleading
and incorrect claims that have
been been spread by Dr. Michael
Kruger about Mark 16:9-20.

GA 1210 - Like GA 22, this MS has a note between 16:8 and
16:9 stating that in some copies, the Gospel ends here,
but in many, this [i.e., verses 9-20] also appears.
Also visible: at the top of the page, a note identifies Mark
16:9-20 as the third reading in the Heothina series, and
supplies the opening phrase to be read in the church-
service. On the second and third line there is a reading
that is a feature of the family-1 form of the text.
